- heteroromantic asexual people are not queer
- aromantic people are not queer
- demisexual people are not queer
- stop appropriating queerness
- queerness doesn’t actually means “whatever i want it to mean”
- actual queer people are oppressed
- you are not oppressed
- "being different"
"queer" isn’t just a random term anyone can pick up and call themselves as
it’s a slur that has been reclaimed by opressed groups in an attempt to help people who suffer from institucionalised and constant opression in our society
so yes, i’m not confortable with people who do not have to deal with something like this appropriating this slur and using as if it’s just a cute and edgy term to describe any sort of non-conformity
you can call it “erasure” as much as you want, it doesn’t change the facts, and the fact is that a demisexual person is about as oppressed as a person with geeky interests - by which i mean, not oppressed at all
You do realize that demisexuals are very often told by literally almost everyone that their sexuality isn’t real, right? You do realize that this is a form of oppression, right? I have literally heard this same argument used to erase bisexuals.
Again, please indicate what makes you qualified to be the fucking arbiter of who is queer enough to count as oppressed.
Being told your sexuality isn’t real may be hurtful, yes, but that alone does not count as institucionalised oppression. demisexual people aren’t discriminated by the law, have no reason to be afraid for their safety just for going out and walking down the street, aren’t under the threat of losing their jobs for being demisexual, etc. oppression is much bigger than just someone on the internet making you feel bad sometimes.
And you know because…? Am I supposed to assume that you are demisexual and understand just what that entails?
I’m also not convinced that you really understand what the word “oppression” means. Have you checked the “demisexual” tag? Every two or three posts is one about how demisexuality “isn’t real” or “isn’t oppressed” or “just straight people wanting to get in on the Oppression Olympics”. I’m going to go ahead and just assume that you don’t understand that that is oppression.
Also, I don’t fucking recall you being named Sole Arbiter of Queerness.
honestly i don’t think this conversation is gonna go anywhere if you’re actually going to argue that i’m not a demisexual so i’m just not aware of the thousand of people losing their jobs, getting murdered, getting beaten or being legally discriminated for being demisexual. you and i both know that doesn’t happens.
and what i’m trying to say is that you don’t understand what “oppression” means. someone being mean to you in the internet isn’t the same as someone oppressing you. the fact that you actually believe people on tumblr saying “demisexuality isn’t real!” is oppressive proves that you have a very distorced view of what the word means, and one i simply can’t agree with.
See, if it was just you telling me my sexuality isn’t real or isn’t worthy of being considered queer, I would literally just tell you to fuck off and continue about my day.
I asked if I was supposed to assume that you’re demisexual because, honestly, I know many demisexuals who experience the same thing that you are doing here out in the real world. Not to mention people saying it isn’t real, and I’m not even going to get into the whole “Oh, he’s with a guy? GAY RELATIONSHIP” bullshit.
What you are saying is that none of that counts as oppression.
I reserve the right to say fuck you.
And I still need to see the credentials proving that you are qualified to be the sole arbiter of queerness and who it fucking applies to.
lmao ok honey - you’re obviously just going to keep saying the exact same things i’ve already explained are invalid, and doing it with a sassy tone so your followers can think you’re awesome for telling me to go fuck myself in a discussion where i literally didn’t insult you in any moment before
i’m definitely saying none of that counts as oppression, i’m glad you got it! because actual oppression is much bigger and terrible and serious than people telling you your sexual orientation isn’t real. does it happpens to people who are actually oppressed, like bisexual people? yeah! but believe me, this is just one of the many things we have to deal with, and the others aren’t things demisexuals really have to worry about, like i’ve said before.
i don’t really want to continue this because lol i think it’s pretty clear at this point that it isn’t going anywhere, so i’m just going to say that i truly do hope people who believe in this definition of oppression are never forced to face what true oppression is, because i wouldn’t wish the kind of suffering they’re so willing to appropriate for their own gain on anybody.
